All the Words of 'Amazing Grace'

A favourite olde hymn, written by John Newton, in 1779, Amazing Grace is still sung in churches all around the world. I suspect many / most people who know the air of this great hymn do not know a fraction of all the words so I reproduce them here for your private worship.

AMAZING GRACE

Amazing grace! (how sweet the sound)
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace those fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forebear to shine;
But God, who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.

Extracts from a Helpful Christian Book

I recently borrowed a good book from an acquaintance called:
'30 DAYS TO TAMING YOUR TONGUE' by Deborah Smith Pegues. Here's a summary of the lessons from this book.
(Published by HHP, 2005 - ISBN-13:978-0-7369-2210-4.)

Day 1: The Lying Tongue.

The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in men who are truthful (Proverbs 12:22)

Today's Affirmation:

"My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness. All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse" (Proverbs 8:7-8).

Day 2: The Flattering Tongue.

Those people.....flatter others to get favours in return (Jude v16).

Today's Affirmation:

"I will show partially to no one, nor will I flatter any man; for if I were skilled in flattery, my Maker would soon take me away" (Job 32:21-22).

Day 3: The Manipulating Tongue.

Then Delilah pouted, "How can you say you love me when you don't confide in me? You've made fun of me three times now, and you still haven't told me what makes you so strong!" (Judges 16:15)

Today's Affirmation:

Because I am in right standing with God, He surrounds me with favour. Therefore, I have no need to manipulate anyone for personal gain or advantage.

Day 4: The Hasty Tongue.

Do you see a man hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him" (Proverbs 29:20).

Today's Affirmation:

I am swift to hear and slow to speak. The Lord has set a guard over my mouth and He keeps watch over the door of my lips.

Day 5: The Divisive Tongue.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God (Matthew 5;9).

Today's Affirmation:

I will make every effort to speak words that engender peace and to refrain from any communication that creates disunity.

Day 6: The Argumentative Tongue.

Avoiding a fight is a sign of honour; only fools insist on quarrelling (Proverbs 20:3).

Today's Affirmation:

I will resist becoming contentious by respecting everyone's right to have his own values and views.

Day 7: The boasting Tongue.

Let another praise you and not your own mouth; someone else, and not your own lips (Proverbs 27:2).

Today's Affirmation:

'By the grace of God, I am what I am' (1 Cor 15:10).

Day 8: The Self-Deprecating Tongue.

Moses said to the Lord, "O LOrd, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue" (Exodus 4:10).

Today's Affirmation:

God is able to make all grace abound toward me; so that I always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.

Day 9: The Slandering Tongue.

To hide hatred is to be a liar; to slander is to be a fool (Proverbs 10:18).

Today's Affirmation:

I refuse to be a slanderer. I will use Phillians 4:8 as my conversation sifter. Therefore, whatever things are true, noble, just, pure, lovely and of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy about someone, I comment only on those things.

Day 10: The Gossiping Tongue.

The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man's inmost parts (Proverbs 18:8).

Today's Affirmation:

I am not a busybody in other people's matters. Therefore, I do not yield my tongue as an instrument of gossip.

Day 11: The Meddling Tongue.

Some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and wasting time meddling in other people's business (2 Thess 3:11).

Today's affirmation:

I am genuinely interested in others and only seek information from them that will allow me to serve, love and support them better.

Day 12: The Betraying Tongue.

A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret (Proverbs 11:13).

Today's Affirmation:

I am a trustworthy person and can be depended upon to keep a confidence.

Day 13: The Belittling Tongue.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen (Ephesians 4:29).

Today's Affirmation:

No unwholesome talk comes out of my mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Day 14: The Cynical Tongue.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful (Psalm 1:1).

Today's affirmation:

I am blessed because I do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly nor stand in the way of sinners nor sit in the seat of the scornful.

Day 15: The Know-It-All Tongue.

A prudent man conceals knowledge (Proverbs 12:23).

Today's Affirmation:

I am prudent and therefore I do not flaunt my knowledge.

Day 16: The Harsh Tongue.

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger (Proverbs 15:1).

Today's Affirmation:

I open my mouth with wisdom. The law of kindness is on my tongue.

Day 17: The Tactless Tongue.

Let your conversation be gracious and effective so that you have the right answer for everyone (Colossians 4:6).

Today's Affirmation:

My words are seasoned with grace as I speak the truth in love.

Day 18: The intimidating Tongue.

The Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!" (1 Samuel 17:44).

Today's Affirmation:

Because God is in control of every aspect of my life and has set my destiny, I have no need to control the behaviour of others.

Day 19: The Rude Tongue.

There will be a highway called the Holy Road. No one rude or rebellious is permitted on this road. it's for God's people exclusively (Isaiah 35:8).

Today's Affirmation:

I will slow down and take the time to do to others as I would have them do to me.

Day 20: The Judgemental Tongue.

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged (Matthew 7:1-2).

Today's Affirmation:

I do not judge others or I too will be judged. For in the same way that I judge, I will be judged.

Day 21: The Self-Absorbed Tongue.

Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others (Philippians 2:4).

Today's Affirmation:

I look not only to my own interests, but to the interests of others. Therefore, my issues are not the primary topic of my conversations.

Day 22: The Cursing Tongue.

Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so (James 3:10).

Today's Affirmation:

Cursing does not proceed out of my mouth. Today I give God full charge of my tongue. By His grace I will only speak words that will bring honour to His name.

Day 23: The Complaining Tongue.

I cry aloud with my voice to the Lord; I make supplication with my voice to the Lord. I pour out my complaint before Him; I declare my trouble before Him (Psalm 142:1-2).

Today's Affirmation:

Because God works all things together for my good, according to His purpose for my life, I will not complain.

Day 24: The Retaliating Tongue.

Don't repay evil for evil. Don't retaliate when people say unkind things about you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God wants you to do and He will bless you for it (1 Peter 3:9).

Today's Affirmation:

I will repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this I have been called so that I may inerit a blessing.

Day: 25: The Accusing Tongue.

The accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down (Revelation 12:10).

Today's Affirmation:

With God's help, today I will tune my ears to wisdom and concentrate on understanding. I will cry out for insight and understanding. I will search for them as I would for lost money or hidden treasure.

Day 26: The Discouraging Tongue.

When they were discouraged, I smiled at them. My look of approval was precious to them (Job 29:24).

Today's Affirmation:

Worry weighs a person down; but my encouraging words will cheer them up.

Day 27: The Doubting Tongue.

For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, "Be removed and be cast into the sea," and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

Today's Affirmation:

Anything is possible for me if I believe. Therefore, I will declare my faith rather than discuss my doubts.

Day 28: The Loquacious [motor-mouth] Tongue.

When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise (Proverbs 10:19).

Today's Affirmation:

When my words are many, sin is not absent, but when I hold my tongue, I am considered wise.

Day 29: The Indiscreet tongue.

Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you (Proverbs 2:11).

Today's Affirmation:

My discretion will protect me and understanding will guard me.

Day 30: The Silent Tongue.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.....a time to be silent and a time to speak (Ecclesiastes 3:1, 7).

Today's Affirmation:

I will not be silent when I should be speaking.

The TIME during these days is holy and God wants all those who are His to set these days apart for spiritual public worship and similar activities.

The Feast of Trumpets falls on Friday, 10th September (beginning the previous evening at sunset). For more information on this topic, check out this link:

Hymn 567: Have Thine Own Way, Lord

HAVE THINE OWN WAY, LORD

1) Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!

Thou art the potter; I am the clay.

Mold me and make me after Thy will,

While I am waiting, yielded and still.

2) Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!

Search me and try me, Master today!

Whiter than snow Lord, wash me just now,

As in Thy presence humbly I bow.

3) Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!

Wounded and weary help me, I pray!

Power all power surely is Thine!

Touch me and heal me, Saviour divine!

4) Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!

Hold o'er my being absolute sway!

Fill with Thy Spirit till all shall see

Christ only, always, living in me.

Hymn 618: Stand Up! Stand Up for Jesus!

STAND UP! STAND UP FOR JESUS!

1) Stand up! stand up for Jesus! Ye soldiers of the cross;

Lift high his royal banner, it must not suffer loss;

From victory unto victory, His army shall He lead,

Till every foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed.

2) Stand up! stand up for Jesus! The trumpet call obey;

Forth to the mighty conflict, in this His glorious day.

Ye that are His now serve Him against unnumbered foes;

Let courage rise with danger and strength to strength oppose.

3) Stand up! stand up for Jesus! Stand in His strength alone;

The arm of flesh will fail you; ye dare not trust your own.

Put on the Gospel armour, and watching unto prayer,

Where duty calls, or danger, be never wanting there.

4) Stand up! stand up for Jesus! the strife will not be long;

This day the noise of battle, the next the victor's song.

To him that overcometh, a crown of life shall be;

He with the King of glory shall reign eternally.

Hymn 423: Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken

GLORIOUS THINGS OF THEE ARE SPOKEN

1) Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God;

He whose word cannot be broken formed thee for His own abode;

On the Rock of Ages founded, what can shake Thy sure repose?

With salvations' wall surrounded, Thou mayst smile at all thy foes.

2) See the streams of living waters springing from eternal love,

Well supply thy sons and daughters, and all fear and want remove;

Who can faint when such a river ever flows their thirst to assuage?

Grace, which like the Lord, the Giver, never fails from age to age.

3) Round each habitation hovering, see the cloud and fire appear

For a glory and a covering showing that the Lord is near;

Blest inhabitants of Zion, washed in the Redeemer's blood;

Jesus, whom their souls rely on, makes them kings and priests to God.

4) Saviour, if of Zion's city I, through grace, a member am,

Let the world deride or pity, I will glory in Thy name;

Fading is the world's pleasure, all his boasting pomp and show;

Solid joys and lasting treasure none but Zions' children know.

Hymn 570: Not I, But Christ

NOT I, BUT CHRIST

Not I, but Christ, be honoured, loved, exalted;

Not I, but Christ, be seen, be known, be heard;

Not I, but Christ, in every look and action;

Not I, but Christ, in every thought and word.

Not I, but Christ, to gently soothe in sorrow,

Not I, but Christ, to wipe the falling tear;

Not I, but Christ, to lift the weary burden,

Not I, but Christ, to hush away all fear.

Christ, only Christ! no idle words e'er falling,

Christ, only Christ; no needless bustling sound;

Christ, only Christ; no self important bearing;

Christ, only Christ; no trace of "I" be found.

Not I, but Christ, my every need supplying,

Not I, but Christ, my strength and health to be;

Christ, only Christ, for body, soul and spirit,

Christ, only Christ, here and eternally.

Hymn 518: Standing on the Promises

STANDING ON THE PROMISES

1) Standing on the promises of Christ my King,

Thru eternal ages let His praises ring;

Glory in the highest I will shout and sing

Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain:

Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God my Saviour;

Standing, standing, I'm standing on the promises of God.

2) Standing on the promises that cannot fail,

When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,

By the living word of God, I shall prevail,

Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

3) Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,

Bound to Him eternally by loves' strong cord,

Overcoming daily with His Spirit's sword,

Standing on the promises of God.

Hymn 493: Fill My Cup, Lord

FILL MY CUP, LORD

1) Like the woman at the well I was seeking

for things that could not satisfy;

And then I heard my Saviour speaking:

"Draw from My well that never shall run dry."

Refrain:

Fill my cup, Lord, I lift it up, Lord!

Come and quench this thirsting of my soul;

Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more;

Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole!

2) There are millions in this world who are craving

the pleasure earthly things afford;

But none can match the wondrous treasure

that I find in Jesus Christ my Lord.

Refrain

3) So, my children, if the things this world gave you

leave hungers that won't pass away,

My blessed Lord will come and save you,

if you kneel to Him and humbly pray:

Refrain.

Hymn 330: Take My Life and Let It Be

TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE

1) Take my life , and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee;

Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love,

At the impulse of Thy love.

2) Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee;

Take my voice, and let me sing always only for my King,

Always only for my King.

3) Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages for Thee;

Take my silver and my gold, not a mite would I withhold,

Not a mite would I withhold.

4) Take my will, and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine;

Take my heart, it is Thine own! It shall be Thy royal throne,

It shall be Thy royal throne.

5) Take my love; my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store;

Take myself, and I will be, ever only all for Thee,

Ever only all for Thee.

Hymn 538: Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah

GUIDE ME, O THOU GREAT JEHOVAH

1) Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land;

I am weak, but Thou art mighty; hold me with Thy powerful hand;

Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more,

Feed me till I want no more

2) Open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing stream doth flow;

Let the fire and cloudy pillar, lead me all my journey through;

Strong deliverer, strong deliverer, be Thou still my strength and shield,

Be Thou still my strength and shield.

3) When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside;

Death of death and hells' destruction, land me safe on Canaan's side;

Songs of praises, songs of praises I will ever give to Thee,

I will ever give to Thee.

Hymn 334: Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

COME, THOU FOUNT OF EVERY BLESSING

1) Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace;

Streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.

Teach me ever to adore Thee, may I still Thy goodness prove,

While the hope of endless glory fills my heart with joy and love.

2) Here I raise my Ebenezer, hither by Thy help I've come,

And I hope by Thy good pleasure safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me when a stranger wandering from the fold of God;

He to rescue me from danger interposed His precious blood.

3) O, to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be!

Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, bind me closer still to Thee.

Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love;

Here's my heart - O, take and seal it; seal it for Thy courts above.

Hymn 290: Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS

1) O soul, are you weary and troubled?

No light in the darkness you see?

There's light for a look at the Saviour,

And life more abundant and free!

Refrain:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,

Look full in His wonderful face;

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim

In the light of His wonder and grace.

Refrain

2) Through death into life everlasting,

He passed and we follow Him there;

Over us sin no more hath dominion,

And more than conquerers we are!

Refrain

3) His word shall not fail you He promised;

Believe Him and all will be well:

Then go to a world that is dying,

His perfect salvation to tell!

Great Quote from a Christian TV Program

Hi, I was watching a tv program on a Christian channel in Feb this year when I heard a neat quote the presenter repeated to his audience.
"I'd rather know what I know and not know what I don't know rather than know what I don't know and not know what I do know."
The program was 'Footsteps of Paul' (www.biblicalworld.org) and the presenter was a guy called Tony Moore. He was referring to the wonderful priceless knowledge Christians have concerning the Truth of the Gospel Jesus brought from heaven. Ultimately, the only knowledge that is truly valuable is the Gospel and the teachings of Jesus (Yeshua) the Messiah. All that the world regards as wisdom and knowledge is of no ultimate importance if it is not compatible with the Gospel.

Bible Readings from my 2007 Diary (Part 2)

Sabbath greetings again from Cork county. I hope you enjoy reading, studying and knowing the Scriptures. I delight in sharing these precious verses from God's Word, the Holy Bible, with you. I hope you get a lot of spiritual benefit from reading them here. As mentioned in an earlier entry, I found a 2007 diary called 'Hopeful Thoughts' that has a Bible verse at the foot of each page, one page per week. It is now time to finish the verses for this diary. I now present the verses for weeks 27-52/53 (July thru to Dec 2007). As before, the first rendering is from the diary 'as is'. The second is from the NASV [New American Standard Version](NT vs only) and the third is from the NLT [New Living Translation] (again, NT vs only). All OT verses shall be followed by the NKJV [New King James Version] rendering. But only if the wording is different from the diary version. May the Lord bless you as you read and live His precious Word.

Bible Readings for July-December 2007:

For week ending (w/e) July 7,

In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus (1 Thess 5:18)

[NASV]: in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Bible Readings for March 2010

Sabbath greetings to you from my home in Cork county on Friday, 5th March. Sunset was soon after 6pm locally. That is when Sabbath began for me. I wish I had lots of neighbours who also kept it. I have been a Sabbath-keeper since March 1984. I was baptised by immersion on March 4th that year. I was 'only' 19 but never more sure of anything in my life that being baptised into the family of Almighty God was the right thing to do. Sadly, no one else in my family is interested in knowing what the Bible really teaches. They're all content to let other people do their thinking for them. Everyone needs to read the Bible every day to feed their spirit and draw closer to King Jesus.

Apologies for being a few days late in posting these wonderful Bible verses from my 'Gospel Gems' 2010 calendar. (Did anyone even notice???)

This finishes my labour of love for now. More Bible readings will be posted online soon. I hope someone somewhere will be touched by these wonderful words of the Spirit of God and lead him/her into a lifelong study of the Holy Bible. This Book alone contains the words that lead to eternal life. The Bible not only contains the words of God; it IS the Word of God!

Till next time, may God bless you and your family as you seek, love and obey Him and ask Him to guide you through your brief time here on Earth. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. We were never meant to 'go it alone.' We can only succeed with God's help!

"Blessed be the name of the Lord." Amen.

Bible readings from my 2007 diary

I recently saw a copy of my small 'Hopeful Thoughts' 2007 diary. Each small page had 7 horizontal spaces for a week. I had not written much in it at all during the entire year. It's about 98% blank. I would like to share with you the Bible reading/verse at the foot of each page in two parts. This is part one and it covers the verses for weeks 1-26. Part two will follow shortly. I'm not sure which version of the Holy Scriptures the publishers used but I will reproduce the reading as is for OT verses and for NT verses, I will use the NASB [New American Standard Bible, c. 1960] and the NLT [New Living Translation, c. 1996] versions as well. (**Where either the NASB or the NLT are identical to the diary version, I will not repeat it here.**)
May you be blessed as you read the words inspired by Almighty GOD Himself for our benefit and blessing. Enjoy and may God bless you today and during all of 2010.
