Signs of the Times

HOPE IN TROUBLED TIMES

Troubled times come to us all. Whether it is a financial crisis, a health crisis, or a personal or family crisis, we all face times when the day is bleak and the forecast for tomorrow doesn't seem any brighter. What we need is hope - hope that someone somewhere cares about our situation, hope that tomorrow will be better, hope that there is a permanent solution to all of the troubles of this life.

Following, you will find words of encouragement from the Bible - God's Word to you. You will see that Someone does care about your life and your happiness - God cares. When the troubles of today seem overwhelming, take a moment to read these promises of hope. You'll find that your heart is lighter when you read about God's plan to give you a future and a hope.

The following verses are from the New King James Version of the Bible:

Psalm 121:1-4, I will lift up my eyes to the hills - from whence comes my help? My help comes from the lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

Jeremiah 29:11-13, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for me with all your heart."

Lamentations 3:21-23, This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.

Psalm 146:5-7, Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps truth forever, who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The Lord gives freedom to the prisoners.

Psalm 71:14-16, But I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more, my mouth shall tell of Your righteousness and Your salvation all the day, for I do not know their limits. I will go in the strength of the Lord God; I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only.

Psalm 4:5, Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance.

Psalm 33:18-22, Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, just as we hope in You.

Hope in the Lord

Psalm 31:24, Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.

Jeremiah 17:7-8, Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is in the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.

Romans 15:13, Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 12:10-13, Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honour giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.

Hope in God's Word

Psalm 119:147-149, I rise before the dawning of the morning, and cry for help; I hope in Your word. My eyes are awake through the night watches, that I may meditate on Your word. Hear my voice according to Your lovingkindness; O Lord, revive me according to Your justice.

Romans 15:4, For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

Psalm 130:5-6, I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word, I do hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning - yes, more than those who watch for the morning.

Psalm 119:114-115, You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word. Depart from me, you evildoers, for I will keep the commandments of my God.

Hope in God's Salvation

Romans 5:5-8, Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Acts 24:15, I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.

Proverbs 23:18, For surely there is a hereafter, and your hope will not be cut off.

Psalm 147:11, The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy.

Titus 2:11-14, For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

Lamentations 3:25-26, The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

GOD'S WONDERFUL WORLD - NOVEMBER 2011

Full verses from the NLT.

1, Reverence for God (Ps 89:7)

The highest angelic powers stand in awe of God. He is far more awesome than all who surround His throne.

2, Victory through submission (Jam 4:7, 8)

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8) Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purift your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

3, Don't be caught out (2 Cor 2:11)

so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.

4, Listen for His voice (Jn 10:14)

I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they knoe me

5, He lives! (Jer 10:10)

But the Lord is the only true God. He is the living God and the everlasting King! The whole earth trembles at his anger. The nations cannot stand up to his wrath.

6, The hero of true heroism (Isa 50:7)

Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do his will. And I know that I will not be put to shame.

7, Testing out mettle (1 Pet 4:12, 13)

Dear friends, don't be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.

13) Instead, be very glad - for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.

8, Safety in vigilance (1 Thess 5:6)

So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.

9, God is with us (Ps 46:7)

The Lord of Heaven's Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.

10, Beware of the world's ideas (Col 2:8)

Don't let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that comes from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.

11, Science can be deceptive (1 Tim 6:20)

Timothy, guard what God has entrusted to you. Avoid godless, foolish discussions with those who oppose you with their so-called knowledge.

12, Not all preachers speak truth (2 Tim 4:3)

For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.

13, Are you in danger? (Isa 50:10)

Who among you fears the Lord and obeys his servant? If you are walking in darkness, without a ray of light, trust in the Lord and rely on your God.

14, Taking hold of God's strength (Isa 27:5)

unless they turn to me for help. Let them make peace with me; yes, let them make peace with me.

15, Be wise (Dan 12:10)

Many will be purified, cleansed, and refined by these trials. But the wicked will continue in their wickedness, and none of them will understand. Only those who are wisewill know what it means.

16, Telling the false from the true (Matt 7:16, 17)

You can identify them { false prophets, v 15} by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

17) A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit.

17, Hold fast! (Rev 3:11)

I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown.

18, Christ's victory is as complete as Adam's failure (Rom 5:19)

Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.

19, Christ overcame the world (Jn 16:33)

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.

20, Good Christians face persecution (2 Tim 3:12)

Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

21, The listening God (1 Pet 3:12)

The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.

22, Nothing can seperate us (Rom 8:35-37)

Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?

36) (As the Scriptures say, "For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.")

37) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

23, New every morning (Lam 3:22, 23)

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease

23) Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.

24, Integrity is important (Rom 12:17)

Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honourable.

25, Truthfulness is important (Zeph 3:13)

The remnant of Israel will do no wrong; they will never tell lies or deceive one another. They will eat and sleep in safety, and no one will make them afraid.

26, Humility is important (Prov 29:23)

Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honour.

27, Generosity is important (Prov 11:24, 25)

Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.

25) The generous will prosper; those refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

28, Love is important (1 Cor 13:4)

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud

29, Words are important (Matt 12:37)

The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.

30, Be at peace (Job 22:21)

Submit to God, and you will have peace; than things will go well for you.

Psalm 119 - NKJV, Part 5

This first section is number 13 of 22. Psalm 119 is divided into 22 sections consisting of 8 verses each. Each verse in a section starts with the same Hebrew letter, therefore each verse in section 13, eg, starts with 'mem'. This personal project is to quote all 176 verses of this l-o-n-g psalm in 7 parts. God (Yahweh) inspired His servant, King David, to compose this great psalm of his love for God's commandments, laws, precepts and testimonies. How Utopia would be MUCH closer if everyone had David's attitude towards God and His ways!

[13/22] vs 97 - 104, MEM:

97, Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.

98, You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; for they are ever with me.

99, I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation.

100, I understand more than the ancients, because I keep Your precepts.

101, I have restrained my feet from every evil way, that I may keep Your word.

102, I have not departed from Your judgements, for You Yourself have taught me.

103, How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

104, Through Your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.

[14/22] vs 105 - 112, NUN:

105, Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

106, I have sworn and confirmed that I will keep Your righteous judgements.

107, I am afflicted very much; revive me, O Lord, according to Your word.

108, Accept, I pray, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord, and teach me Your judgements.

109, My life is continually in my hand, yet I do not forget Your law.

110, The wicked have laid a snare for me, yet I have not strayed from Your precepts.

111, Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever, for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

112, I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes, forever to the end.
